Sparkster Sega Genesis Mega Drive Video Game Cartridge 1994
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive non oem reprodction Sparkster video game cartridge.
Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 (released simply as Sparkster in North America and Europe) is a critically acclaimed 1994 side-scrolling platformer developed and published by Konami exclusively for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. It serves as the official, direct sequel to the highly celebrated 16-bit classic Rocket Knight Adventures.
The Plot
The game stars Sparkster, a heroic, sword-wielding opossum who serves as a elite Rocket Knight. When the evil King Gedol invades the Kingdom of Zephyrus and kidnaps Princess Cherry, Sparkster must rocket back into action. Along the way, he must defeat an invading army of lizards and go head-to-head with his bitter rival, the rogue Rocket Knight Axel Gear, who has aligned with the dark side.
Gameplay & Mechanics
While it retains the fast-paced action of the original game, Sparkster on the Genesis introduced several distinct mechanical shifts:
- Automatic Jetpack Charging: Unlike the original game (and the standalone SNES Sparkster spin-off), the jetpack meter in this game fills up automatically over time. This allows players to chain rocket dashes together more rapidly to stay airborne.
- Fencing Focus: Sparkster relies heavily on close-range melee sword combat, as he loses the ability to shoot continuous magic projectile waves from his blade by default.
- The Seven Keys: Players travel through multiple action-packed levels collecting hidden keys. Finding all seven unlocks a powerful, golden "Super Sparkster" form for the final boss battle.
- Difficulty & Redesigned Health: To balance the faster rocket mechanics, the game is notoriously challenging, reducing Sparkster's base health pool down to five hearts.
