The game allows players to experience one of the most famous arcs in comic book history across nine distinct stages. The narrative follows:

• The Death: Superman fights an army of Underworlders in Metropolis before facing the ultimate showdown against the unstoppable monster, Doomsday, resulting in both of them dying.
• The Reign: Four replacement heroes emerge to take his place: The Cyborg Superman, The Eradicator (Last Son of Krypton), Steel (The Man of Steel), and Superboy.
